Sorbitol Solution 70% is a polyol (sugar alcohol) supplied as a clear, colourless, syrupy liquid — a ready-to-use solution, not a powder. It is one of the most widely used liquid sweeteners and humectant bases in the food, oral-care and personal-care industries, and because it arrives already dissolved it can be pumped, metered and blended straight into a batch: no dissolving step, no powder handling, no dusting on the line.
The product is identified as CAS No. 50-70-4 and INS No. 420. It is manufactured to BP / USP / EP specification.
The important thing to know before you order is that this product is supplied in two grades, and they are not interchangeable. One is a high-purity crystalline grade built for tight mannitol and sugar limits. The other is a non-crystallising grade built to stay clear at low temperature.

| Crystalline Grade | Non-Crystalline Grade | |
| Standard | BP / USP / EP | BP / USP |
| D-Sorbitol | ≥ 68.0% | ≥ 50% (as dry substance) |
| D-Mannitol | ≤ 2.0% | ≤ 6.0% (as dry substance) |
| Total sugars | ≤ 0.20% | ≤ 8.0% |
| Reducing sugars | ≤ 0.2% | ≤ 0.30% |
| Sulphated ash | ≤ 0.10% | ≤ 0.10% |
| Low-temperature behaviour | — | Resist experiment: 18 °C for 48 h, non-crystallising |
| Appearance | Colourless, syrupy liquid | Colourless, syrupy liquid |
| Choose it when you need | Maximum purity, the lowest mannitol and sugar load, a BP/USP/EP specification | A solution that will not crystallise out in cold storage or in a finished product that sits at low temperature |
Choose the Crystalline Grade when your specification is written against BP / USP / EP, when mannitol content matters to your process or your label, or when you need the lowest possible sugar load — for example in confectionery, baked goods, beverage and cosmetic formulations where the sorbitol is part of a defined recipe.
Choose the Non-Crystalline Grade when the real risk in your product is crystal formation — cold-stored syrups, fillings and finished goods that spend time at low temperature. Its manufacturing route and the accompanying resist experiment (18 °C for 48 hours, non-crystallising) are the evidence that it will stay clear.
If you are not sure which one fits, send us your end product and target market and we will tell you which grade we would ship.

Which grade for which application? For oral care, cosmetics, confectionery and bakery, most buyers take the Crystalline Grade because of its tighter mannitol and sugar limits. For cold-stored syrups, fillings and products that must not crystallise, buyers take the Non-Crystalline Grade. Ask us if you would like a recommendation.

What is the difference between the two grades? Both are clear, colourless 70% sorbitol solutions. The Crystalline Grade is specified to BP / USP / EP with D-sorbitol ≥ 68.0%, mannitol ≤ 2.0% and total sugars ≤ 0.20%. The Non-Crystalline Grade is specified to BP / USP with D-sorbitol ≥ 50% (as dry substance), mannitol ≤ 6.0% (as dry substance), and is validated by a resist experiment (18 °C for 48 h, non-crystallising).
Is this a liquid or a powder? A liquid. It is a clear, colourless, syrupy 70% solution. The word "Crystalline" in the grade name describes the grade series, not the physical form — this item is always supplied as a liquid.
Which grade is used in toothpaste and oral care? Most oral-care buyers take the Crystalline Grade, drawn by its tighter mannitol and sugar limits and its low conductivity. Tell us your formulation requirement and we will recommend the grade.
Will it crystallise in cold storage? The Non-Crystalline Grade is specifically validated on this point: its resist experiment is 18 °C for 48 hours, non-crystallising. If your product is stored cold, that is the grade to specify.
What is the shelf life? 24 months from the date of manufacture, stored in a cool, dry, ventilated environment.
How is it packed? 250 kg per drum in a plastic drum as standard. Other drum sizes and bulk formats can be discussed against your requirement.
What documents come with a shipment? A batch Certificate of Analysis with the full test result set, plus the product specification sheet.
How do I get the correct grade quoted? Send us your end product, target market and grade preference (section 12) and we will quote the matching grade.
