Sorbitol is a polyol (sugar alcohol) used as a bulk sweetener in a wide range of food products and as a functional humectant, texturiser and carrier in pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulations. As a sweetener it is about 60% as sweet as sucrose while containing roughly one-third fewer calories, and it delivers a smooth mouthfeel with a sweet, cool and pleasant taste.
