D-Glucitol Sorbitol Powder E420, Humectant and Moisture Retention Agent for Feed Pellets, 25kg Kraft Bag from China Factory
Sorbitol powder is the D-glucitol form of sorbitol, supplied as a white crystalline powder to FCC IV. In feed applications it works as a humectant, a moisture retention agent and a mild sweetener, which is why it appears in two places: aquafeed pellets that need to hold together and stay palatable, and semi-moist pet food that has to stay soft in the bag.
The material is non-caking, free-flowing and readily soluble, so it disperses evenly in a dry premix or dissolves directly into the liquid phase of an extruder line. It is E420 in the EU and is used in feed and food applications in most major markets.
For buyers who need documentation before a trial, a batch-specific COA and MSDS are issued before the commercial order rather than after it.![]()

Two specification points matter more in feed than anywhere else:

A batch-specific COA is issued with every shipment, and a sample COA can be sent before the order so your QA team can approve the material in advance.
Aquafeed pellets. Sorbitol acts as a humectant and a binding aid in the pellet matrix. It holds moisture through the conditioner and the die, which improves pellet durability and cuts the fines that otherwise come off in handling and transport. Because it is slightly sweet and bland rather than bitter, it does not work against palatability in shrimp and fish diets the way some binders do.
Semi-moist pet food and treats. This is the larger application. Sorbitol keeps semi-moist kibble and soft treats from hardening in the bag by holding water in the matrix, and it lowers water activity so the product stays shelf-stable without becoming dry and brittle. Formulators typically combine it with glycerin and other humectants rather than relying on sorbitol alone.
Extrusion and dry premix. The powder is non-caking and free-flowing, so it meters evenly into a dry premix and disperses without lumping when it meets the liquid phase.
Typical inclusion levels, which should be confirmed against your own trial data:
| Application | Typical inclusion | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Aquafeed pellets | 1 – 5 % | Higher levels improve durability but raise cost per tonne |
| Semi-moist pet food | 5 – 15 % | Usually blended with glycerin; balance against stool quality |
| Dry premix / mineral mix | 1 – 3 % | Used mainly as a carrier-friendly humectant and sweetener |

Every batch is released against the FCC IV specification above, with the measured values recorded on the batch COA. Reducing sugar, water content and microbiological counts are tested on each lot rather than periodically, because those are the three parameters that actually change how the material behaves in a feed line.
Retention samples are kept from each batch so that any complaint can be traced back to the material that was shipped, and the COA number on the bag matches the certificate issued with the shipment.

The kraft bag with PE inner liner is the standard export packing for this grade. It keeps the powder dry in transit better than a woven bag and it is the format most feed mills in Europe and North America expect to receive.![]()

Store sealed in a dry warehouse between 5 and 35 °C, away from direct sun and away from strong odours. Sorbitol is hygroscopic: an opened bag should be resealed or used within the shift, and bags should not be stored directly on a concrete floor in humid conditions.
Shelf life is typically 24 months in unopened bags under the storage conditions above.
Is this food grade or feed grade?
It is supplied to FCC IV, the food chemical codex specification, which is the grade feed mills normally buy for aquafeed and pet food. If your market requires a specific feed-grade declaration or a different local standard, tell us the destination and we will confirm what paperwork applies.
Can you supply a different mesh?
Yes — 20–60, 40–60 and 60–80 mesh are standard. Finer grades are available for lines that need faster dissolution, though they require dust extraction.
Can we get a sample before ordering a container?
Yes. A sample and its COA are issued before the commercial order so your lab can run a trial batch first.
What is the minimum order?
It depends on destination and packing. One pallet is a common starting quantity for a trial; full container loads are the normal commercial volume. Send us your port and we will quote both.
This page describes sorbitol powder to FCC IV for feed and food applications. It does not set maximum inclusion levels for any species or market — those are determined by your local feed regulation and your own trial work. We supply the material and its documentation; the formulation decision stays with your technical team.
