Sorbitol is a polyol (sugar alcohol) used as a bulk sweetener in numerous food products and as a functional humectant, texturising agent and carrier in pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulations. Our Sorbitol Powder is a white, odourless, crystalline powder with a cool, sweet taste. It is freely soluble in water and sparingly soluble in alcohol.
As a sweetener, sorbitol is about 60% as sweet as sucrose while containing roughly one-third fewer calories. It has a smooth mouthfeel and a sweet, cool and pleasant taste, and it is non-cariogenic — it does not promote tooth decay and may be useful for people with diabetes.
The powder is offered in two grades, milled to a range of particle sizes:
Food Grade— manufactured and tested to FCC, for food and beverage applications.
Pharmaceutical Grade— manufactured and tested to USP / BP / EP, for pharmaceutical and high-purity applications. A dedicated Injection Gradewith controlled bacterial endotoxins is also available.
