Maltitol Syrup 75/50 is a colourless, odourless hydrogenated starch hydrolysate supplied to cosmetic grade, at 75% dry substance with maltitol at 50% or more of the dry matter. In a toothpaste it takes the place of part of the glycerin or sorbitol normally used as the humectant phase, and it does so at a lower cost per unit of water binding.
The job is to keep the paste from setting in the tube. A toothpaste is a suspension of abrasive and thickener in a humectant-water base, and if water migrates or evaporates at the cap, the paste stiffens at the nozzle, the ribbon breaks and the tube loses its shape on the shelf. The polyol blend holds that water in the continuous phase, so the paste stays smooth to the last squeeze and the surface does not skin over after the cap is replaced.
Maltitol also suits an oral care formula because it is not fermented by the plaque bacteria that convert sucrose to acid. It brings no reducing sugar into a system that may contain mineral actives, and its low colour and odour mean it does not fight the mint or the aniseed. At 75% solids it blends into the paste at ambient temperature without a pre-dissolve step, which keeps the batch cycle short.

Mineral active toothpaste. The syrup is charged with the humectant blend before the abrasive and the thickener are dispersed. It keeps the paste rheology stable around the silica or calcium carbonate system and does not introduce a reducing sugar that could affect mineral active availability.
Whitening and bicarbonate pastes. High-salt formulas are prone to syneresis, where a thin layer of liquid separates at the nozzle. The polyol blend raises the water-binding capacity of the base, which reduces that separation and keeps the ribbon uniform.
Gel and transparent pastes. A clear gel shows every bubble and every trace of colour. Cosmetic grade syrup is water-white and low in ash, so the gel stays bright, and its refractive contribution can be balanced against the sorbitol to keep the product transparent.
Sensitive and herbal pastes. Where the flavour load is high or the active is a botanical extract, a neutral humectant keeps the profile clean. The syrup carries no cereal or burnt note to compete with the flavour system.
Travel and sample tubes. Small tubes lose water faster relative to their volume. A higher humectant level built on this syrup keeps the paste soft at the nozzle through the whole pack.

Cosmetic grade release adds colour and odour checks to the usual panel of dry substance, water, pH, maltitol and sorbitol content, reducing sugars, ash, metals and microbiological counts. Colour is read on a diluted sample against a standard, because a paste is judged partly on how white it looks at the nozzle.
Lot codes connect the drum to its evaporation run and to the retained sample. A paste that shows a change in viscosity or a tint can therefore be checked against the syrup lot that went into it.
The syrup ships in 250kg lacquered steel drums with a food-grade liner and a clamped lid, or in 1000kg IBCs with a bottom valve for pumped transfer. Drums are palletised four high and 80 fit in a 20ft container; IBC loads run 18-20 units. Neutral or buyer-labelled packing is available, and export documents issue before dispatch.

Store in a closed, dry warehouse at 15-30°C, away from sunlight and from fragrance or solvent drums that could taint the product. Warm cold drums to 40°C before pumping, and stir or roll to even out the solids. Keep lids sealed between batches, since an open drum will pick up water and odour from the room. Sealed material remains within specification for 24 months.
