Sorbitol Solution 70% Cosmetic Grade is a clear, colorless, syrupy liquid derived from corn, conforming to E420 specifications with CAS number 50-70-4. It is a sugar alcohol widely used in oral care and personal care formulations as a sweetener, humectant, and bodying agent. This cosmetic-grade solution is manufactured for mouthwash, toothpaste, oral sprays, and other personal care products where clarity, mild sweetness, and a smooth mouthfeel are essential. Typical specification. The certificate of analysis issued for each shipment is the governing document. Each lot is released on a certificate of analysis issued against the drum number, with a safety data sheet supplied for the cosmetic raw material file. 1. Clean, Mild Sweetness Mouthwash and oral rinses – sweetness, body, cooling sensation, and tooth-friendly Toothpaste – moisture retention and smooth texture Oral sprays and breath fresheners – mild sweetness with a clean finish Other personal care products – humectant and texture enhancer where applicable Alcohol-free mouth rinse. Sorbitol supplies the body that alcohol used to give, so the rinse does not taste thin once the ethanol is removed. Antiseptic and therapeutic rinses. It rounds off the bitter edge of cationic actives and mineral actives, which is where most compliance problems start. Cosmetic and whitening rinses. A clean sweetness with no sticky film, so the rinse leaves no residue on the teeth or the tongue. Concentrated rinse bases. The syrup stays in solution at high solids and does not crystallise in a concentrate held in a cool store. Oral sprays and gels. Low viscosity and clean taste make it workable in a small-volume carrier where a sugar syrup would feel heavy. Typical use is 3-10% of the formula, balanced against the flavour load and the intensity of the active.Product Overview
In mouthwash applications, sorbitol serves multiple functions. It provides a clean, mild sweetness—approximately 60% as sweet as sucrose—that masks the sharp or medicinal notes of active ingredients without leaving an aftertaste. It also contributes body and a smooth, rounded texture, so the rinse does not feel thin or watery in the mouth. Sorbitol’s natural cooling effect complements mint and other fresh flavors, enhancing the overall refreshing sensation. Because oral bacteria cannot ferment sorbitol into cavity-causing acids, it is a tooth-friendly choice for products used daily in the mouth.
Sorbitol also contributes to product stability. As a humectant, it helps retain moisture and prevents the mouthwash from drying out or changing texture over time. It assists in keeping ingredients evenly dispersed, so the product remains consistent from first use to last. The non-crystallizing grade ensures the solution stays clear and smooth in storage and in the finished product—no crystals, no cloudiness.
This cosmetic-grade solution is manufactured under controlled conditions for personal care applications. The 250kg drum format is designed for manufacturers requiring reliable, high-volume supply.![]()

Key Benefits
Sorbitol provides a pleasant sweetness without the aftertaste associated with some artificial sweeteners. It smooths out harsh or medicinal notes in mouthwash formulations, making the product more enjoyable to use.
2. Smooth, Rounded Mouthfeel
Mouthwash formulated with sorbitol has a fuller body and a smoother texture. It does not feel watery or thin, giving the product a more polished, premium feel in the mouth.
3. Natural Cooling Effect
Sorbitol delivers a subtle cooling sensation when it contacts water or the oral cavity. This complements mint and other fresh flavors, enhancing the overall refreshing experience.
4. Tooth-Friendly
Oral bacteria cannot ferment sorbitol into cavity-causing acids. For a product used daily in the mouth, this provides a meaningful benefit for oral health.
5. Product Stability
As a humectant, sorbitol helps retain moisture and maintain consistent texture. It also assists in keeping ingredients evenly dispersed, so the mouthwash remains uniform and clear over its shelf life.
6. Clear and Non-Crystallizing
This cosmetic-grade solution stays clear and free of crystals in storage and in the finished product. It meets the appearance standards expected in personal care formulations.Applications

Oral care raw materials are judged on clarity and taste, and both are release tests here. Turbidity is read nephelometrically and colour on the ICUMSA scale, because a rinse is a clear liquid in a transparent bottle and any haze is visible at the shelf. A sensory check on a diluted sample confirms that the lot carries no earthy or fermented note that would sit over a mint flavour.
Assay and solids are confirmed by HPLC, refractometer and Karl Fischer, and pH is checked because it affects compatibility with the actives in the formula. Reducing sugars, heavy metals, arsenic and microbiological counts are released against the specification, and the retained sample is filed with the drum number so a finished batch of rinse can be traced back to the syrup lot it used.
The standard pack is a 250 kg blue tight-head drum with food-grade lining, sealed bungs and a tamper-evident cap, labelled with product, grade, net weight and lot number. Four drums are stacked per pallet and shrink-wrapped, and 80 drums load into a 20 ft container. A 1000 kg food-grade IBC is available for high-volume oral care plants, and neutral or buyer-branded labelling can be applied before dispatch.

Store upright between 15 °C and 30 °C in a closed, dry room, away from sunlight and from fragrance or flavour stores. The syrup is hygroscopic and will dilute if a bung is left open in a humid filling hall, which shifts both the sweetness and the solids on the batch sheet. Cold storage thickens the product and can seed crystals at the wall, so bring a chilled drum back to room temperature and roll it before use. Reseal part-used drums and use them before opening a new one.

Clarity you can see through a bottle. Turbidity and colour are release tests on every lot, because a clear rinse shows any haze immediately.
Clean sensory profile. Each lot is checked diluted for off notes, so a mint flavour is not sitting over an earthy background.
Sugar-free by nature. A polyol sweetener for oral care formulas that cannot carry sucrose, with a clean finish and no sticky film.
Compatible with common actives. Stable alongside ethanol, glycols, mineral actives and cationic antiseptics at the pH ranges used in oral care.
Drum and IBC supply. 250 kg sealed drums for smaller fill lines, 1000 kg food-grade IBC tanks for continuous production.
Cosmetic raw material file support. Certificate of analysis, safety data sheet and specification sheet are issued with the shipment for your compliance file.
