Sorbitol Solution 70% Industrial Grade is a clear, colorless, syrupy liquid derived from corn. It is a sugar alcohol (D-Glucitol, CAS 50-70-4) widely used as a humectant in industrial applications, particularly in the formulation of leather fatliquors. In leather processing, sorbitol helps retain moisture within the leather structure, contributing to softness, flexibility, and a supple hand feel in the finished product. Typical specification. The certificate of analysis issued for each shipment is the governing document. The certificate of analysis is issued per lot against the drum number, and a safety data sheet travels with the shipping set. Leather fatliquor formulations – improves moisture retention and softness Fatliquor formulation. Used at 3-8% of the fatliquor, it holds water in the pelt so the emulsion penetrates evenly and the hand dries round rather than boardy. Upper and garment leather. It keeps the grain supple through staking and toggling, which reduces the tight patches and flex cracks that show after wear. Base coat and finish. As a plasticiser in the base coat it keeps the film flexible, so the finish does not craze at a fold. Dye penetration. It moderates the rate of dye uptake at the surface, which improves levelness on a hide with variable substance. Storage and shipping protection. Leather held in a dry warehouse keeps its hand longer when the humectant balance is right, and the white bloom of migrated fat is less likely to appear. Typical addition is 3-8% of the fatliquor or finish weight, set against the fat content of the pelt and the target hand.Product Overview
This industrial-grade solution is manufactured for technical applications rather than food or cosmetic use. Its 70% concentration and non-crystallizing behavior make it easy to handle, pump, and incorporate into fatliquor formulations without the risk of crystallization or clogging in storage tanks and production lines. Sorbitol is non-volatile, meaning it does not evaporate away, so its moisture-retaining effect remains in the leather over time rather than fading after application.
For leather manufacturers and processors, sorbitol solution offers a reliable, cost-effective way to improve the performance of fatliquor systems. It works alongside oils and conditioning agents to help leather stay flexible and resist drying, cracking, and stiffness—qualities that matter both in production and in the hands of the end consumer.![]()

Applications
• Leather finishing – contributes to flexibility and hand feel
• Synthetic leather and leather substitutes – used as a plasticizer for flexibility and durability![]()

Leather chemicals are judged on how they behave in an emulsion, so acceptance testing includes conductivity and ash, both of which indicate ionic load that can break a fatliquor or streak a finish. Colour is read against a fresh reference, since a tinted syrup can mark a pale crust, and clarity is checked visually because a hazy product can leave a deposit on a spray gun.
Assay, dry substance and water are confirmed by HPLC, refractometer and Karl Fischer, and apparent viscosity is measured at a fixed temperature so a drum stored cold is not dosed at the wrong solids. Reducing sugars, iron and heavy metals are released against specification, and each lot is retained and filed under the drum number so a finished leather batch can be traced back to the drum it used.
Each order leaves in 250 kg blue tight-head drums, food-grade lined, with both bungs sealed and a label showing product, grade, net weight and lot number. Four drums sit on a shrink-wrapped pallet with edge protection, and a 20 ft container takes 80 drums. Tanneries with a bulk fatliquor kitchen can take 1000 kg IBC tanks with a bottom valve instead, and drum labelling can be left neutral where the brand is not wanted.

Keep the drums upright and closed between 15 °C and 30 °C, in a dry store away from acids, chrome liquors and solvents. Cold thickens the syrup and can seed crystals at the wall, and a seeded lot will not disperse cleanly into a fatliquor emulsion; warm it to room temperature and roll before use. Warm storage slowly darkens the product, which is visible on a pale crust. Wipe any spill promptly, since a dried film on a floor becomes slippery.
Industrial Grade, corn-derived sorbitol solution
• Humectant function for leather fatliquor and finishing
• Non-volatile for long-lasting moisture retention
• Non-crystallizing formula for smooth handling and storage
• Bulk 250kg drum for industrial-scale production
• Certificate of Analysis available with each shipment
Built for emulsions. Low conductivity and low ash, so the syrup disperses into a fatliquor without breaking it or streaking a finish.
Consistent solids and viscosity. Reported per drum, which keeps the fatliquor recipe stable from delivery to delivery.
No grit on the grain. A non-crystallizing syrup that will not leave crystal deposits on a spray booth or a roller coater.
Technical support on the pelt. Our team can work through the humectant balance against fat content and the target hand with your tannery.
Drum and IBC formats. 250 kg sealed drums for a single drum tannery line, 1000 kg IBC tanks for bulk fatliquor production.
Export documentation. Certificate of analysis, safety data sheet and packing list are issued before dispatch, with loading confirmed per destination port.
