Our Sorbitol Solution 70% is a clear, colorless, and odorless sugar alcohol polyol (E420, D-Glucitol) specially graded for industrial use. Supplied as a stable aqueous solution with approximately 70% dry substance, it is a well-established raw material for paper and paperboard coating production. What makes this product stand out is its versatility. In paper coating, it does several jobs at once: it helps your coating formulation flow smoothly, supports a brighter and whiter finished surface, and keeps the coating flexible so it doesn't crack during drying and processing. One product, multiple benefits — that means simpler formulation, fewer additives to manage, and more consistent results for your production line. Typical specification. The certificate of analysis issued for each shipment is the governing document. Each lot ships with a certificate of analysis issued against the drum number, and a safety data sheet is supplied for the mill file. Made for Paper Coating – Industrial-grade polyol optimized for paper and paperboard coating, not a general-purpose sweetener. Multi-Functional Performance – Helps control coating flow, supports whiteness and brightness, and keeps coatings flexible — all in one product. Brighter, Whiter Results – Works with optical brightening agents to support better initial whiteness and long-lasting brightness stability. Smoother Production – Helps stabilize coating viscosity so your line runs smoothly with fewer adjustments and less downtime. Less Cracking, Better Finish – Retains moisture to keep coatings flexible during drying and processing, reducing brittleness and cracking. Consistent Every Drum – Clear, colorless, odorless, with a stable 70% concentration batch after batch. Easy to Handle – Non-hazardous, non-flammable, fully water-miscible, and compatible with standard drum and pumping equipment. Bulk Supply Ready – Sturdy 250kg drums, ideal for both trial runs and continuous production. Ideal for paper mills and coating formulators producing coated printing paper, packaging board, and specialty papers. It works as a carrier for optical brightening agents, a viscosity modifier, and a humectant in aqueous coating formulations — helping you achieve a smoother process and a better finished surface. Blade coating colour. At 2-5 parts on pigment it holds water in the colour, which limits binder migration and the blade dusting that follows. Film press and size press. It plasticises the starch film so the sized surface does not crack or curl when the sheet is dried hard. Surface sizing. The humectant keeps the sheet from becoming brittle in a dry pressroom and moderates the curl that shows at the edges of a reel. Paperboard coating. It improves the flexibility of a heavy coating, which reduces cracking at the fold on a carton blank. Pigment dispersion. It acts as a humectant in the dispersion, keeping the pigment from drying into hard cakes on the walls of the make-down tank. Typical addition is 2-5 parts on pigment in a coating colour, adjusted against the base sheet porosity and the coater speed.Product Overview
Unlike general-purpose sorbitol products, this industrial grade is made specifically for coating applications. It works well with optical brightening agents to improve whiteness, helps stabilize coating viscosity so your line runs smoothly with fewer adjustments, and retains moisture to keep the coating flexible through drying and converting.
Every 250kg drum delivers the same stable 70% concentration, the same clear appearance, and the same reliable performance — batch after batch. The product is non-hazardous, non-flammable, fully water-miscible, and compatible with standard drum and pumping equipment, making it easy to store, handle, and use. Whether you're running a trial or keeping a continuous production line going, our flexible bulk supply is ready to match your needs.![]()

For a coating application the meaningful release checks are electrolyte load and rheology. Conductivity and ash are read because ionic material can shock a latex and shift the colour viscosity, and viscosity itself is measured rotationally at a fixed temperature so a drum stored cold is not dosed at a solids level different from the one on the batch sheet.
Assay, dry substance and water are confirmed by HPLC, refractometer and Karl Fischer, and colour is read against a fresh reference because a tinted syrup can shift the shade of an off-white coated sheet. Reducing sugars, iron and heavy metals are released against specification, and each lot is retained under its drum number so a coated reel can be traced back to the syrup lot used in the colour.

Coating kitchens usually start on drums: 250 kg net, blue tight-head, bungs sealed and tamper-evident, with product, grade, net weight and lot number printed on the label. Four drums to a pallet and 80 drums to a 20 ft container, or 1000 kg IBC tanks with a bottom valve where colour is made down from bulk. The pallet pattern and container count are confirmed against the mill's unloading equipment before booking.

Store indoors between 15 °C and 30 °C, upright and closed, away from acids, alum and other electrolyte stores. Cold raises the viscosity sharply and can seed crystals that would score an applicator roll, so bring a chilled drum to room temperature and roll it before dosing. Keep bungs sealed in a humid coating kitchen, since the syrup picks up water and the solids on the batch sheet then no longer match the drum. Clean up spills before they dry, as the film is slippery on a tiled floor.

Low electrolyte load. Conductivity and ash are held low, which is what keeps a latex from shocking and a colour viscosity from drifting.
Viscosity reported per lot. Measured at a fixed temperature, so the make-down calculation does not depend on the temperature of the drum store.
Runnability support. Our technical team can advise on the addition rate against base sheet porosity and coater speed.
No crystalline spots. A non-crystallizing syrup that stays clear in the colour tank and on the applicator rolls.
Drum and IBC supply. 250 kg sealed drums for trial lots, 1000 kg IBC tanks for a mill that makes colour continuously.
Mill documentation. The certificate, safety data sheet and packing list are issued with the booking, and the container number is recorded on the loading plan so a coated reel can be traced back to its colour lot.
