Maltitol Powder is a crystalline sugar alcohol, D-Maltitol, CAS 585-88-6, E965, produced to BP, USP and EP requirements and milled to a 30-400 mesh band for chewable tablets. A chewable tablet is judged in the mouth rather than in the bottle: it has to break cleanly under the tooth, grind without grittiness, release its flavour and leave no chalky film behind.
Particle size controls most of that experience. A coarse crystal feels sandy between the teeth no matter how well the tablet compresses, while an over-milled powder with a heavy fines load compresses into a tablet that is hard to chew and dusts at the punch. The 30-400 mesh band is a compromise that keeps the tablet smooth on the palate while still giving the press enough surface area to bond at the low compression forces a chewable formula uses.
Hardness and friability sit on the other side of the same balance. A chewable tablet is pressed softer than a swallowable one, often to a fraction of the usual crushing strength, because the patient has to bite through it. That softness makes friability the real constraint: the tablet has to survive the deduster, the blister line and the journey to the pharmacy without chipping at the edge. Maltitol compacts into a coherent matrix at low force, so the tablet stays intact even when it is deliberately soft. Taste is where maltitol does work that a filler cannot. It carries roughly half the sweetness of sucrose, dissolves steadily as the tablet is chewed and adds a mild cooling sensation that lifts mint and fruit flavours. Being non-reducing, it also does not react with ascorbic acid or with the amine groups in some actives, so a multivitamin chewable keeps its colour and its potency through shelf life.

Maltitol carries the bulk of the tablet and most of its sweetness, so the formula does not need a separate sugar and a separate sweetener. Its non-reducing nature protects sensitive vitamins from the browning reactions that shorten shelf life.
A soft chewable tablet has to disintegrate quickly under the tooth while staying hard enough to pack. Maltitol compacts at low force and breaks down evenly, giving a smooth paste rather than lumps in the mouth.
Strong botanical extracts need a carrier that does not add flavour of its own. Maltitol is neutral in taste and binds the extract into a tablet that masks bitterness better than a plain cellulose filler.
Where swallowing is difficult, a chewable dose has to be palatable and easy to break. The mild cooling effect and clean dissolution make the tablet acceptable without a sugar coating.
In a tablet that dissolves on the tongue, the excipient is tasted in full, so the smooth mouthfeel of a fine maltitol crystal matters more than in a coated tablet. It disperses without a gritty residue and leaves the mouth clean.

Lots are released against the BP, USP and EP monographs, with assay by HPLC, moisture by Karl Fischer, residue on ignition by gravimetry, and heavy metals and arsenic tested to the monograph limits. The sieve stack is run at the mill because the fines fraction drives both chewability and friability, and a shift in the band would show up on the press before it showed up in the certificate.
Every bag carries the lot code used on the pallet label and the certificate of analysis, so a compression batch can be matched to the excipient lot that went into it. Retained samples are held for re-test on request.
Material is packed in 25kg PP woven bags with a sealed PE inner liner and palletised for loading. Plain print or buyer-branded artwork can be supplied for bulk contracts. Full container, LCL and mixed shipments are arranged to the destination port, with the certificate of analysis, packing list and booking documents issued before dispatch.
Store in a cool, dry, ventilated room away from sunlight and from volatile chemicals. The crystal takes up odours, so keep bags clear of solvents, essential oils and cleaning agents. Reseal a part-used bag at the end of the shift and keep pallets off a damp floor. Unopened bags hold their monograph specification for 24 months.
