Sorbitol Solution 70% Food Grade (E420) is a corn-derived, non-crystallizing liquid sweetener manufactured to food-grade standards. With a CAS number of 50-70-4 and E420 designation, it is a well-established polyol widely used across the food and beverage industry. This 70% aqueous solution combines a mild, cooling sweetness with excellent humectant, stabilizing, and flavor-carrying properties, making it a versatile ingredient for sugar-free, reduced-sugar, and functional food formulations. Supplied in 250kg drums, it is designed for industrial-scale production and efficient logistics. Typical specification. The certificate of analysis issued for each shipment is the governing document. Reducing sugars and conductivity are reported because they are the two results that most directly reflect how cleanly the hydrolysis and refining steps were run. 1. Corn-Derived & Clean Label Friendly Sugar-free candies and chewing gum: Provides sweetness without being fermented to acid by oral microorganisms, supporting dental health and enabling "sugar-free" claims. Gum, candy and coatings take the syrup for bulk and water binding, with a feedstock route that is simple to declare on pack. Drink bases use the low colour syrup where the finished product must stay visually clean and the label names the polyol source. Humectancy in baked goods and bars comes from a feedstock unrelated to the wheat or barley already in the formula, which simplifies allergen review. Water binding limits syneresis in set and frozen desserts, and the corn route keeps the ingredient statement short. Toothpaste and rinse formulas use the syrup for humectancy where the brand publishes a feedstock origin statement.Product Overview

Key Benefits
Derived from corn and compliant with food-grade standards (E420), this sorbitol solution offers manufacturers a reliable, plant-based-origin ingredient option. Its liquid form allows for accurate metering and easy blending into production lines, eliminating the handling and dissolution steps required for powdered polyols. The non-crystallizing nature helps prevent sandiness or crystallization in finished products, keeping texture smooth and consistent throughout shelf life.
2. Mild Sweetness with Functional Properties
Sorbitol is approximately 0.5–0.7 times as sweet as sucrose and delivers a characteristic cooling sensation on the palate. Beyond sweetening, it functions as an effective humectant—helping baked goods, confectionery, and meat products retain moisture and resist drying, hardening, or cracking during storage. It is also acid- and heat-stable, resisting Maillard browning under high-temperature processing, which helps preserve original flavor and color.![]()
Applications
Beverages and frozen desserts: Enhances cooling mouthfeel, improves body and texture, and supports reduced-sugar formulations.
Baked goods and confectionery: Retains moisture, extends softness, and delays staling.
Surimi products and meat processing: Improves water-binding capacity and freeze-thaw stability.
Jams, fillings, and non-dairy creams: Enhances texture, stability, and moisture retention.
Pharmaceutical and nutraceutical applications: Commonly used as a sweetener and humectant in syrups, oral solutions, and chewable dosage forms.Confectionery

Incoming starch is checked for moisture, protein and ash before it enters hydrolysis, since protein carry-over affects both yield and colour. The glucose liquor is tested for dextrose equivalent before hydrogenation, and the finished syrup is released on dry substance, assay, colour, pH, reducing sugars, conductivity, residue on ignition, heavy metals and plate count.
Holding the feedstock to one route is what makes the traceability statement meaningful. Where a buyer needs a feedstock origin declaration or a statement that no other cereal starch was used in the campaign, it is issued against the lot and kept with the quality file.
The syrup is filled into 250 kg net HDPE drums, palletised and wrapped, with IBC units available for volume orders. Each drum carries the lot reference used on the certificate and on the feedstock declaration. Packing list, certificate of analysis and safety data sheet are issued before dispatch, and neutral labelling is available for buyers who repack under their own brand.![]()
Store at 15°C to 30°C, sealed and upright, away from sunlight and odours. Residual reducing sugars make the syrup sensitive to heat over long periods, so avoid storing drums against a hot wall or near a steam line. Keep drums closed between draws and use opened stock within the production cycle rather than holding it across a season.
One feedstock route, stated. The specification names corn starch and the hydrolysis and hydrogenation steps, so the source is not left to inference.
Starch checked before hydrolysis. Moisture, protein and ash are tested on incoming material, which is where colour and yield are decided.
Refining results on the certificate. Colour and conductivity are reported, so a clean process is visible rather than asserted.
Allergen statement available. A feedstock declaration is issued against the lot for brands that publish the source of their polyol.
Low colour for clear products. Carbon and ion exchange treatment keep the syrup suitable for transparent beverages and gels.
Bulk packing for repeat use. Drums and IBC units are supplied with neutral labelling, and documents leave with the container.![]()
