Sorbitol Solution 70% (CAS No. 50-70-4, EINECS No. 200-061-5, INS No. 420 / E420) is a clear, colorless, syrupy liquid composed of approximately 70% D-Sorbitol and 30% water (per composition data). Chemically it is D-Glucitol (D-Sorbitol), a polyol with the molecular formula C₆H₁₄O₆ and molecular weight 182.17 g/mol.
The product is available in two grades to match different formulation requirements:
Crystalline grade
BP / USP / EP
crystalline specifications; characterized by high dry substance (≥ 70%), high D-sorbitol (≥ 68%) and very low D-mannitol (≤ 1.5%), ideal where a well-defined, high-purity crystalline profile is required.
Non-Crystalline grade
BP / USP / EP
non-crystalline specifications; passes the
-18°C / 48-hour non-crystallization test
, ideal for liquid formulations, cold-chain logistics and applications where sugar crystallization must be avoided.
Both grades share the classic sorbitol profile: as a sugar alcohol bulk sweetener, approximately 60 percent as sweet as sucrose with one-third fewer calories, a smooth mouthfeel and a sweet, cool, pleasant taste.
Sorbitol has been used safely in processed foods for almost half a century. It is affirmed as GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) by the U.S. FDA and approved for use in the EU, Australia, Canada, Japan and numerous other countries. It is registered on the U.S. TSCA 8(b) inventory, classified as non-hazardous for transport under DOT rules and non-hazardous for air transport under IATA, and not controlled under WHMIS (Canada). Every shipment includes a full Certificate of Analysis (COA), Specification and Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).

Common to both grades:
One grade set, three pharmacopeias.
BP / USP / EP
specifications, backed by GRAS affirmation and approvals covering the EU, Australia, Canada and Japan.
High sorbitol content.
72.31%
(spec ≥ 68.0%); non-crystalline grade delivers
72%–92% D-sorbitol
per specification — both provide dependable sweetness and humectancy.
Low impurities across the board.
1.0 mg/kg
; chlorides < 10 mg/kg and sulphates < 20 mg/kg per crystalline COA — a clean profile for sensitive formulations.
High ionic purity.
1.32 µS/cm
(spec ≤ 20 µS/cm); non-crystalline specification holds conductivity to
≤ 10 µS/cm
— consistent purity for demanding processes.
Flexible supply formats.
250 / 270 / 275 kg drums, 1300 kg IBCs, flexible bags and ISO tanks
, containerized or bulk from Qingdao port; documented delivery with COA, Specification and MSDS on every order.
Crystalline grade highlights:
Well-defined composition.
73.1%
, moisture
26.9%
, refractive index
1.4646
and specific rotation
+4.55°
— a precise, reproducible profile for regulated formulations.
Ultra-low mannitol.
0.35%
(spec ≤ 2.0% per COA; ≤ 1.5% per specification) — minimal co-polyol interference for the purest applications.
Very low sugars.
0.04%
and total sugars
0.16%
per COA — negligible browning and excellent color stability.
Non-Crystalline grade highlights:
Cold-proof, crystal-free.
-18°C / 48-hour non-crystallization test
, so it survives winter transit, refrigerated storage and slow-moving inventory without sugar crystal formation.
Ready-to-dose liquid.
Full identity verification.

Food & Confectionery. In sugar-free gum, candy, chocolate, baked goods and desserts, Sorbitol Solution 70% provides a clean, cooling sweetness while controlling sugar crystallization and retaining moisture for longer freshness. The non-crystalline grade suits syrups, beverages, jams and jellies where crystallization must be avoided; the crystalline grade suits formulations where a well-defined sorbitol profile and precise dry substance matter.
Oral Care & Cosmetics. It is the classic humectant in toothpaste and mouthwash, keeping the paste moist, spreadable and shelf-stable. The non-crystalline grade is the standard choice here, staying crystal-free through storage. The same moisture-binding chemistry supports creams, lotions, shampoos and conditioners with a smoother, less tacky finish.
Pharmaceutical. As a sweetening and bodying excipient in oral syrups, liquid solutions, chewable tablets and vitamin preparations, with BP/USP/EP compliance supporting submissions in regulated markets. The crystalline grade offers the tightest impurity and composition control.
Industrial & Technical. Serves as a humectant, plasticizer and crystallization inhibitor in adhesives, printing inks and other technical fluids where water-activity control matters; the non-crystalline grade is preferred where low-temperature stability is required.

Both grades meet BP / USP / EP specifications (crystalline and non-crystalline respectively), hold GRAS affirmation from the U.S. FDA, and are approved for use in the EU, Australia, Canada and Japan. CAS No. 50-70-4 is listed on the U.S. TSCA 8(b) inventory. For transport, the product is non-hazardous for transport under DOT rules and non-hazardous for air transport under IATA; it is not controlled under WHMIS (Canada). Identity and quality are verified per batch, and each COA confirms "the results conform to the Specification."
The product is described by grade and documented compliance; no therapeutic or medical claims are made.
