Sorbitol Solution 70% (CAS No. 50-70-4, EINECS No. 200-061-5, INS No. 420 / E420, H.S. Code 38246000) is a clear, colorless, syrupy liquid that is fully miscible with water. Chemically it is D-Glucitol (D-Sorbitol), a polyol with the formula C₆H₁₄O₆ and molecular weight 182.17 g/mol.
As a sugar alcohol bulk sweetener, it is approximately 60 percent as sweet as sucrose with one-third fewer calories, delivering a smooth mouthfeel and a sweet, cool, pleasant taste. The product is manufactured to non-crystalline BP / USP / EP specifications — a grade that resists sugar crystallization even under cold conditions, passing the -18°C / 48-hour resistance test, which makes it particularly suitable for liquid formulations and cold-chain logistics.
Sorbitol has been used safely in processed foods for almost half a century. It is affirmed as GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) by the U.S. Food Administration and is approved for use in the European Union, Australia, Canada, Japan and numerous countries worldwide. Every batch ships with a full Certificate of Analysis (COA) and Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).
Food & Beverage. Sorbitol Solution 70% replaces sugar in sugar-free and reduced-sugar confectionery, gum, chocolate and baked goods, contributing a smooth, cooling sweetness while curbing crystallization and holding moisture for longer-lasting freshness. It also performs as a sugar substitute in beverages, syrups, desserts and jams where a clean, non-cloying sweetness is required.
Oral Care & Cosmetics. In toothpaste and mouthwash it acts as the classic humectant — keeping paste moist, spreadable and stable on the shelf. The identical moisture-binding chemistry makes it useful in creams, lotions, shampoos and conditioners for a smoother, less tacky finish.
Pharmaceutical. Used as a sweetening and bodying excipient in oral syrups, solutions, chewable tablets and vitamin preparations, with BP/USP/EP compliance supporting regulated-market submissions.
Industrial. Functions as a humectant, plasticizer and crystallization inhibitor in adhesives, printing inks, and other technical fluids where water activity control matters.
The product meets non-crystalline BP / USP / EP specifications and holds GRAS affirmation from the U.S. FDA, with approval for the EU, Australia, Canada and Japan. It is registered on the U.S. TSCA 8(b) inventory, classified as not a DOT controlled material for transport, and not controlled under WHMIS (Canada). Storage and handling. Keep containers sealed and stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, away from heat, ignition sources and strong oxidizing agents. Per the MSDS, protect eyes when handling and wear suitable protective clothing; rinse eyes with running water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical care if contact occurs, and never induce vomiting if ingested — seek immediate medical attention. The product is stable, does not polymerize, and dissolves readily in cold or hot water.
Shelf life. 2 years from manufacture; current validity is stated on the batch COA.
