Sorbitol Powder (D-Glucitol, E420 / INS 420, CAS 50-70-4) is a white crystalline polyol produced by the catalytic hydrogenation of glucose derived from refined starch. This listing covers the 20-60 mesh crystalline grade: a free-flowing, non-caking powder with an assay of 98.0% minimum and a typical value above 99%.
In sugar-free gummy candy, sorbitol does two jobs at once. It is the bulking agent that carries the body of the piece, and it is the humectant that holds moisture inside the gummy so the texture stays soft and does not dry out on the shelf. It brings roughly 60% of the sweetness of sucrose with about one third fewer calories, a smooth mouthfeel and a clean cooling finish, and it does not support tooth decay, which suits sugar-free and reduced-sugar confectionery.
Because the powder is free-flowing and non-caking, it doses evenly in automatic weighing and mixing lines without bridging in the hopper. Every batch is released against a signed Certificate of Analysis; a sample COA and SDS are available on request.
