Our Sorbitol Powder (D-Glucitol, CAS 50-70-4, INS No. 420(i)) is a food-grade sugar alcohol produced by catalytic hydrogenation of glucose. It is a white, crystalline granular powder with a faint sweet taste, approximately 60% as sweet as sucrose. This grade is supplied in 60–80 mesh particle size—a granular specification positioned between coarse crystalline grades and fine powders, offering a balance of flowability and dispersion suited to food, pharmaceutical, and personal care applications.
Sorbitol is officially classified by JECFA with functional uses including sweetener, humectant, sequestrant, texturizer, stabilizer, and bulking agent. As a sugar alcohol humectant, it absorbs and retains moisture, preventing products from drying out, cracking, or losing texture during storage. Its humectant function is particularly valued in baked goods, confectionery, toothpaste, and granola bars.
The 60–80 mesh granular form is a commercially established sorbitol specification. Unlike fine powders that generate dust and flow poorly, granular sorbitol flows reliably in hoppers, feeders, and conveying systems, reducing bridging and material loss. The particles dissolve readily in water with adequate agitation while maintaining structural integrity during dry handling. This makes it suitable for dry blending, tableting feeds, and processes where consistent volumetric flow is essential. The product is packed in 25 kg PP bags and available for bulk supply.

Particle Size Positioning
The 60–80 mesh designation places this grade in the granular category. Particles passing 60 mesh (approximately 250 μm) but retained on 80 mesh (approximately 177 μm) have a controlled, relatively narrow size distribution. Commercial sorbitol is routinely offered in multiple mesh cuts—including 20–40, 20–60, 60–80, and 80–120—allowing buyers to select the flow and dissolution profile matched to their process.
Flow and Handling Advantages
Granular sorbitol flows more freely than fine powder grades, reducing bridging and rat-holing in hoppers and feeders. This makes it suitable for dry blending operations, tableting feeds, and automated dosing systems where consistent volumetric flow is essential. The granular form also generates less dust during handling, improving workplace conditions and reducing material loss.
Dissolution Behavior
While granular particles dissolve slightly more slowly than fine powder, they remain very soluble in water and disperse uniformly with adequate agitation. For applications where rapid dissolution is not critical—such as confectionery, baked goods, and tableting—the handling benefits of the granular form often outweigh the marginally slower dissolution.
Established Commercial Grade
60–80 mesh is a recognized standard particle size in the sorbitol trade. This means consistent availability and predictable performance across batches and sources.

Sugar Alcohol Humectant
Sorbitol is a non-volatile polyol that absorbs and retains moisture, preventing products from drying out, cracking, or losing texture. It is widely used as a general humectant in foods, and specifically in toothpaste where it acts as a non-cariogenic humectant and plasticizer, imparting a cool, sweet taste. In baked goods, confectionery, and granola bars, it controls humectancy and extends shelf life.
Sweetener
Sorbitol provides a mild, clean sweetness at roughly 60% the intensity of sucrose. Its negative heat of solution produces a pronounced cooling sensation on the palate, valued in chewing gum, mints, and oral care products. It is non-cariogenic and does not raise blood glucose concentrations, making it suitable for sugar-free and diabetic-friendly formulations.
Bulking Agent and Crystallization Inhibitor
Sorbitol contributes body and mouthfeel without excessive sweetness. It inhibits sugar crystallization in syrups and confections, maintaining smooth texture and appearance. JECFA lists its functional classes as sweetener, humectant, sequestrant, texturizer, stabilizer, and bulking agent.

Added at 5-20% of the gum mass, the granule disperses into the base at 45-55°C without forming the dry pockets that a fine powder leaves behind. In dusting applications the same cut keeps the sheet from sticking to the rollers without throwing dust into the room.
In fondant, icing base and sherbet-type blends the 60-80 granule sits close to the size of the sugar phase, so the mix resists stratification in the bag and spoon. It dissolves on the tongue without the gritty edge of a coarse cut.
The granule wets out and dissolves in cold water with moderate stirring, and it does not clump on the surface the way a fine powder can when it is tipped into a jug. Dust carryover at the filling head is also lower, which keeps the seal area clean.
Where sorbitol is weighed into a premix that will later meet water, the granular cut disperses without lumping and blends evenly with flour, milk powder and stabiliser blends of similar particle size.
In sugar-free panning, the granule dissolves into the syrup phase at a controlled rate, which keeps the coating solution at a stable solids level through a long coating run.

Each lot is screened and then tested: assay by HPLC, moisture by Karl Fischer, particle size by sieve analysis and bulk density on a tapped cylinder. The fines fraction passing 100 mesh is reported because it governs both dusting behaviour and the risk of lumping when the powder meets water. Heavy metals, arsenic, residue on ignition and plate counts are checked against the food grade limits before the lot is released.
The screening deck is checked at the start and end of each campaign, and samples are taken at the crystalliser and at the packing head. Retained samples are kept so that a complaint about dissolution or dust can be compared against the material that shipped.
Standard packing is a 25kg PP woven bag with a PE inner liner, heat-sealed against moisture pickup, with palletisation and stretch wrapping available on request. Neutral or buyer-labelled print is offered for bulk orders. Container loading is planned per order against the destination port and pallet configuration, and full container, LCL and mixed shipments are arranged with the certificate of analysis issued before dispatch.

Store in a cool, dry, ventilated warehouse away from sunlight, with bags closed and off the floor. Keep the pallets away from strong odours and from walls that condense, and respect the stack height on the bag print so that the granules are not compressed into lumps. In unopened original packaging the material holds specification for 24 months; reseal opened bags and use them within the current production window.
Granular Flow, Consistent Handling
The 60–80 mesh granular form flows reliably in hoppers, feeders, and conveying systems while generating less dust than fine powder grades. This reduces downtime and material loss in production environments.
Established Particle Size
60–80 mesh is a recognized commercial specification for sorbitol, supported by multiple suppliers and documented in trade listings. You can source with confidence that the specification is understood and reproducible.
Sugar Alcohol Humectant Performance
Sorbitol delivers moisture retention, sweetness, and bulking in a single ingredient. The granular form integrates well into dry blends, tableting feeds, and confectionery processes.
