Our Sorbitol Powder (D-Glucitol, CAS 50-70-4, E420) is a white, crystalline powder with a mild sweet taste. It is a sugar alcohol made from glucose and is widely used in foods, medicines, personal care products, and industrial applications. This grade is supplied in 80–120 mesh fine powder form, packed in 25 kg PP bags, and specifically suited for use as a sweetener and humectant in paper coating formulations.
Sorbitol is best known as a humectant—a substance that holds onto moisture and keeps materials from drying out. In paper coating, this property is valuable because it helps the coating stay smooth and flexible instead of becoming brittle or cracked as it dries. Sorbitol is non-volatile, meaning it stays in the coating and provides lasting moisture control rather than evaporating away during the drying process .
Beyond moisture control, sorbitol also functions as a sweetener with a mild, clean taste. In paper coating applications, this is a secondary characteristic, but it reflects the product‘s overall purity and food-grade quality. The 80–120 mesh particle size is a commercially available sorbitol specification, offering a fine powder that disperses smoothly into coating mixtures.

Starch is the workhorse binder for pre-coat and size-press work, but its dried film is brittle and prone to dusting. Sorbitol plasticises the starch film, lowers its glass transition and keeps the coating flexible at the moisture levels present on a modern high-speed machine.
At the metering point the colour is subjected to high shear in a very short dwell. Sorbitol improves water retention so the colour does not dewater against the blade, which keeps the coat weight profile flat and reduces blade scratches and streaks along the machine direction.
Board is scored and folded after coating, and a brittle coat fractures along the score. With sorbitol in the colour, the film bends with the substrate, so the fold line stays intact and the printed surface does not break into a visible white line.
Loose pigment and binder particles on the coated surface transfer to blankets and cylinders as dust, which forces wash-ups and produces mottle. A more flexible, better-bound film sheds fewer particles, and the smoother surface improves ink holdout and gloss uniformity.
One-side coated sheets curl because the coated face takes up and releases moisture differently from the uncoated back. Sorbitol buffered into the coating moderates that differential, which reduces curl at the reel edge and improves flatness through the printing press.
Typical addition is 1-4% on dry pigment weight, adjusted against the binder type, the coat weight and the humidity of the converting plant; higher loadings soften the film further but can raise the colour's water sensitivity.

Release testing covers assay by HPLC, moisture by Karl Fischer, particle size by sieve analysis, pH of a 50% solution, residue on ignition, heavy metals, arsenic and microbiological counts. Because the product is dissolved into a coating colour, solution clarity and pH are reported as measured values, since an off-spec pH can disturb the pigment dispersion.
Every bag carries a lot code linking it to the crystallisation run and packing record, and retained samples are kept for re-test. For coating trials, material from the same lot can be reserved so that a machine run is not judged against a different batch.

The powder is packed in 25kg PP woven bags with an inner PE liner, heat-sealed to protect it from humidity in transit. Bags can be palletised and stretch-wrapped on request, and neutral or buyer-labelled printing is available for bulk orders. Container loading is planned per order against the destination port and pallet layout, and full container, LCL and mixed shipments are all arranged with the certificate of analysis issued before dispatch.

Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse, off the floor and clear of condensing walls, away from direct sunlight and from odorous chemicals. Avoid storage above 40°C, which can cause caking in the bag. Sealed original bags remain free flowing for 24 months; after opening, reseal the liner and dissolve the balance within the current coating campaign.
Fine 80-120 Mesh Powder
The fine mesh size disperses smoothly into coating mixtures, helping you achieve a uniform, grit-free surface on the finished paper.
Reliable Humectant Performance
Sorbitol stays in the coating and keeps working. It doesn‘t evaporate away during drying, so the moisture protection lasts through production and storage .
Food Grade Quality
This grade meets food-grade standards, with batch-specific Certificate of Analysis documentation available with every shipment.
25 kg PP Bag, Bulk Supply Ready
Standard 25 kg PP bag packaging suits trial runs and production-scale purchasing. Bulk supply capacity supports repeat orders and contract volumes.
Water retention without viscosity spikes. The grade dissolves to a low-viscosity solution, so the colour can be adjusted for water retention without pushing the solids-viscosity curve past what the coater can handle.
Fine, consistent mesh. Dissolution rate in a coating kitchen depends on particle size. The 80-120 mesh cut is sieved per lot, so a batch dissolves in the same time on every shift.
pH and clarity reported. Coating colours are sensitive to both. pH of a 50% solution and solution appearance are measured before release, not inferred from the powder.
Own-plant production. Crystallisation, milling, sieving and packing sit in one facility, keeping the physical specification stable and removing the trading margin between producer and mill.
Release documents per lot. Assay, moisture, mesh, pH, heavy metals, arsenic and microbiological results are issued as a lot-specific certificate, with a safety data sheet supplied alongside.
Export packing that holds. Heat-sealed PE liners in PP woven bags, palletised and wrapped on request, with neutral or buyer-labelled printing for bulk orders.
Trial support. Coating colour behaviour depends on binder, pigment and machine. Our technical team will review the addition rate against your formulation and coater type before the first container is booked.
