Product Overview
Maltitol Powder is a crystalline sugar alcohol (polyol) produced by hydrogenating high-maltose glucose syrup. It delivers roughly 90% of sucrose sweetness with a clean taste and no bitter aftertaste, while providing the bulk and mouthfeel that high-intensity sweeteners cannot. What sets maltitol apart for many formulators is its non-cariogenic profile: oral bacteria cannot ferment it to produce the acids that cause tooth decay, making it a go-to bulk sweetener for sugar-free chewing gum, mints, chocolate, and dental-health positioned products.
In practical terms, maltitol functions as a one-to-one bulk replacement for sugar across a wide range of applications. It provides the volume and texture that sugar contributes, which means formulators can replace sucrose cup-for-cup in many recipes without losing the structure or mouthfeel consumers expect . In sugar-free chewing gum and mints, maltitol delivers sweetness and bulk while actively supporting the “tooth-friendly” claim on pack. In chocolate and compound coatings, it replaces sucrose in sugar-free milk and dark chocolate, helping maintain smooth texture and stable gloss during storage . In bakery applications, maltitol acts as a humectant, keeping cookies, biscuits, and cereal bars soft while extending shelf life—and because it does not participate in Maillard browning, baked goods retain their intended color during processing.
Beyond confectionery and bakery, maltitol serves as a multifunctional excipient in nutraceutical and pharmaceutical oral dosage forms. It functions as a filler, filler-binder, and coating agent in chewable tablets, lozenges, effervescent tablets, sachets, and medicated confectionery, where its sweetness and compressibility contribute to patient compliance . In oral care products, maltitol appears in sugar-free toothpastes and mouthwashes, where its non-cariogenic sweetness is a formulation requirement rather than an afterthought. Maltitol also meets the criteria for “safe for teeth” qualification under Toothfriendly International standards, and clinical evaluation of maltitol-sweetened dark chocolate has confirmed it does not acidify dental plaque.

Applications
Chewing gum and pellet gum
Gum is the product most associated with the claim, because it stays in the mouth for a long period and bathes the teeth in its soluble phase. A maltitol base keeps the plaque pH steady through the chew, and the crystalline coating gives the pellet its crunch without a fermentable sugar layer.
Hard candy and lozenge
A boiled sweet is held in the mouth for minutes at a time, which is precisely when a fermentable sugar does the most damage. Depositing the candy on maltitol removes that exposure while keeping the glass-clear appearance and the long shelf life.
Chocolate and compound
For a bar sold on a sugar-free platform, the polyol base carries both the bulk and the claim, so the front-of-pack statement and the ingredient list tell the same story.
Chewable and effervescent tablets
Tablets that are chewed or dissolved in the mouth are a direct oral exposure. A non-fermentable sweetener keeps the delivery format aligned with an oral-care or sugar-free position.
Paediatric and between-meal formats
Products eaten outside mealtimes have less salivary clearance behind them. Replacing the sugar in a snack or a vitamin chew lowers the acid challenge across the day.
Quality Control
Every batch of Maltitol Powder is tested before it leaves our facility, so what arrives at your warehouse matches what was agreed on the order — on the first shipment and on every reorder after that.
The testing covers the things that matter most to buyers: purity, moisture content, appearance, heavy metals, and microbiological safety. All results are checked against the JECFA and EU E965(i) standards, which are the same reference points your own customers and auditors will recognize.
A Certificate of Analysis reporting the actual results for your specific lot ships with every order. Your quality team has the numbers in hand without needing to email us and wait for a reply. MSDS and technical data sheets are available on request, and Halal, Kosher, and Non-GMO declarations can be arranged for qualified orders depending on the supply chain you choose at the time of order confirmation.

Packaging & Shipping
Packing is a 25kg PP woven bag with a food-grade PE inner liner, heat-sealed and marked with product name, net weight, lot code and storage instruction. Bags are palletised 40 to a tonne and stretch-wrapped, or loaded loose for warehouses that prefer to handle sacks. Neutral bags and buyer-printed artwork are available on bulk orders. Full container, LCL and mixed loading are all arranged, with the packing list and the certificate of analysis issued against each lot before dispatch.

Storage & Handling
Keep the bags in a cool, dry, ventilated warehouse, away from sunlight and from materials with a strong odour, since a polyol powder will pick up foreign smells in a closed space. Store off the floor, do not lean bags against a wall that condenses, and reseal the liner after each withdrawal. Moisture pickup is the main quality risk: a damp powder cakes, dissolves slowly and can support mould at the fold even though the crystal itself is not a substrate. Sealed original bags remain within specification for 24 months.
